The Lance Armstrong Foundation, along with Nike, created the original yellow "Livestrong"
wristband in May 2004, and sold 30 million by the end of 2005 at $1 per bracelet, raising $30
million to educate and support cancer survivors and their families.
Building on that momentum, two young teens in New Jersey sold 10,000 blue wristbands with the
phrase "Cure Diabetes Today" in just four weeks, according to the New York Times. They raised
$20,000 for diabetes research and now have 30,000 more wristbands on order.
The momentum continues with red wristbands for AIDS awareness from the One Earth Foundation
and colorful puzzle-piece wristbands for autism awareness from AutismLink in Pittsburgh, PA.
Borders and Waldenbooks support CARE, spreading knowledge and fighting poverty around the
world. Purple wristbands may be purchased at www.care.org/Borders
